This is a twist on a traditional Screwdriver (orange juice and vodka). The gingerly refers to the fresh ginger that is grated into the orange juice. The cup also gets a rim of ginger powder, orange peel sugar. The rim is meant to echo the flavors in the cup. Ya that’s right, I used the word echo and made the drink that much deeper.

  • Orange juice
  • Vodka
  • Fresh ginger
  • Ginger powder
  • Orange Peel
  • Granulated sugar
  • honey
  • Ice

I like to grate the ginger and put it into the orange juice first to give it time to marinate. About 1 teaspoon per 500 ml.

Place some sugar (a few tablespoons) on a flat surface. I like to use parchment paper so I don’t have to clean up afterwards. On the sugar sprinkle the grated peel of half an orange and about half a teaspoon of ginger powder; mix well. Go easy on the ginger powder, it is rally sharp. Treat it like you would wasabi. Do not put wasabi in this drink. These measurements are not exact because it depends on personal taste.

On the same  piece of parchment paper make a circle of honey. Revers the cup into the honey and rim the cup, making sure it is all over the rim.

Place the honeyed rim directly into the sugar mixture. Roll it around in there, really get the sugar stuck in the honey.

Place ice cubes in the cup, the amount of vodka you feel comfortable with. I used unflavored vodka, but now that I think about it, orange flavored vodka would also be delicious (I’m not even sure that’s a think, but if you have it, use it.)

Top with the ginger infused orange juice. Now you are gingerly screwed!
