The Avenues in Kuwait is my favorite mall in the whole wide world. It literally has everything; especially when it comes to eateries. So many options can sometimes leave you confused on where to eat. Since I have personally spent so much time shopping and eating there, allow me to simplify the process.

Katsuya is not your typical sushi restaurant. The menu features Asian-inspired creations that are unique and yet familiar. Located in the middle of all the action, it is a great place to people-watch while you eat. Must try: Crispy chicken salad, crispy brussel sprouts, crispy rice with spicy tuna, Japanese mushroom bop.

This restaurant serves up Italian dishes with a twist. Funky food in a funky setting. Melenzané is tucked away in a quiet corner in the SoKu area of the mall on the ground floor, it makes for a great pit-stop between shopping sprees. Must Try: The salads and the mini burgers.

This restaurant is the grandfather of good sushi in Kuwait. At Maki you can find classic Japanese flavors as well as innovative, locally inspired dishes. Consistently delicious, Maki always quenches your sushi thirst. Must try: Filo shrimp tempura, Negimayaki, any funky maki creation.

Habra is a carnivore’s dream come true. This restaurant specializes in quality cuts of meat treated with the upmost respect. The menu offers the best meat dishes from different cultures such as meat tacos, braised Korean short ribs, and grilled bone marrow in the bone. Must try: Korean braised short-ribs, the bone marrow, the sweet potatoes, and surprisingly, the kale salad.

If you are Filipino or have Filipino friends, you are already in the know about Jollibee. Everyone else: Jolly Bee is the Philippines’ version of KFC, but better. The chicken is crispier, the gravy is gravyier, and the side dishes more exotic. Must try: The chicken meal and the noodles, and don’t forget to try the halo halo.

In the mood for a good, clean, well-made burger? Head to Shake Shack! The burgers are made to order using real meat. It is fast-food without any of the bad stuff. Must try: The classic burger, the shakes, fries with cheese.

According to their website “PICK serves ready made, freshly prepared “BALANCED” food that’s good for all type of diets, whether you are on weight-loss, or weight-gain or even weight maintaining.” But that explanation doesn’t do it justice. Pick offers delicious food fast and has an amazing array of fro-yo topping and fro-yo flavors. Must try: the spaghetti bolognese, the chicken shawarma, and the frozen yogurt.

It is time for dessert, or maybe desert is your meal, Moo Milk Bar is where you need to be now. The funniest and most original deserts in the whole mall. Head over there and see what is trending at the moment. Must try: Black ice cream, anything with their pistachio sauce, the french toast.

  • Street, Al Makan

Funky food in a funky setting.  Street in Al-Makan is an innovative space and kitchen that defies labels or categorizations. It feels like a fluid expression of food and art, a perfect reflection of street food in general. MUST TRY: Korean chicken and waffles, starters..
